Regenerative Amplifier for the Omega Laser System

چکیده

LLE Review, Volume 76 219 The 60-beam OMEGA Nd:glass laser is a direct-drive inertial confinement fusion (ICF) laser facility capable of achieving 30-kJ UV energy with an arbitrary temporal pulse shape predetermined by the target design. The initial low-energy, temporally shaped pulse is generated by the pulse-shaping system1 (similar to a design developed at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory2), followed by multistage amplification with splitting, resulting in 60 laser beams with 1-kJ IR energy per beam. At the first amplification stage a negative-feedbackcontrolled, Nd:YLF regenerative amplifier (regen) is used. In this regen, the shaped pulse is amplified up to nine orders of magnitude to the submillijoule level.

Highly Stable, Diode-Pumped, Cavity-Dumped Nd:YLF Regenerative Amplifier for the OMEGA Laser Fusion Facility

LLE Review, Volume 91 103 Introduction The OMEGA facility is LLE’s 60-beam, 30-kJ (UV) laser system for performing inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments. One of the main features of the OMEGA laser is a flexible optical pulse–shaping system1 that produces 0.1to 5-ns, complex-shaped, low-energy pulses that must be amplified to ~1-mJ level before being injected into power amplifiers. Rege...

Modeling the Temporal-Pulse-Shape Dynamics of an Actively Stabilized Regenerative Amplifier for OMEGA Pulse-Shaping Applications

18 LLE Review, Volume 69 Advances in laser-fusion technology indicate that the temporal profile of the laser pulse applied to laser-fusion targets is important for improving the performance of these targets.1 The OMEGA laser is a 60-beam laser-fusion system capable of producing a total of 30 kJ of ultraviolet (351-nm) energy on target, where the temporal profile of the optical pulse applied to ...

Pulse Shaping on the OMEGA Laser System

184 LLE Review, Volume 72 Current target designs for laser-driven inertially confined fusion experiments require that the laser drive pulse be tailored to the target, i.e., that the pulse have some temporal shape other than Gaussian. On the 60-beam OMEGA1 laser system this is accomplished by placing an electro-optic modulator at the input of the system, which is driven by an electrical pulse fr...

20 mJ, 1 ps Yb:YAG Thin-disk Regenerative Amplifier

This is a report on a 100 W, 20 mJ, 1 ps Yb:YAG thin-disk regenerative amplifier. A homemade Yb:YAG thin-disk, Kerr-lens mode-locked oscillator with turn-key performance and microjoule-level pulse energy is used to seed the regenerative chirped-pulse amplifier. The amplifier is placed in airtight housing. It operates at room temperature and exhibits stable operation at a 5 kHz repetition rate, ...

Carrier-envelope phase stabilization and control of 1 kHz, 6 mJ, 30 fs laser pulses from a Ti:sapphire regenerative amplifier.

Carrier-envelope (CE) phase stabilization of a two-stage chirped pulse amplifier laser system with regenerative amplification as the preamplifier is demonstrated. The CE phase stability of this laser system is found to have a 90 mrad rms error averaged over 50 laser shots for a locking period of 4.5 h. The CE phase locking was confirmed unambiguously by experimental observation of the 2pi perio...
